Great Malaysians

When the statement "Great Malaysian" comes in mind, who do we thought of? There are many of them such as Tun Dr. Mahathir, Tunku Abdul Rahman, Yasmin Ahmad, Vincent Tan, Tony Fernandez and the lists goes on. These people had definitely made a name right here in Malaysia and idolized by many people in Malaysia. To tell the truth, there are actually many Malaysians who are unappreciated back over here in Malaysia. Hence, they ventured out to other countries and eventually much more famous that anyone could ever imagine. In post, I'm gonna reviewed several Malaysians that I very much respect besides Yasmin Ahmad and Dr. M. Surprisingly, these Malaysians have on thing in common. They are not acknowledged here in Malaysia during their early days.

Jimmy Choo

Take a look at the ever famous Jimmy Choo. A well known shoe designer which some shoe could value up to double of your current salary. When people thought Jimmy Choo must be from a rich family since he get to further his studies in London, the fact is far from that. He had to work in order for him to pay off his education fees and even had to survived mainly on cup noodles before Princess Diana take a fancy of his work. Even until now, in Malaysia, many people thought that venturing into shoe designing would not be profitable despite having someone being so successful. I do not know why but I definitely reckon Jimmy Choo as one of the greatest Malaysian ever.

Gary Chaw

Anyone of you readers listened to Gary Chaw? No doubt that he is one of the most successful Chinese artist of all time. With his incredible singing ability and song writing skills, most would definitely think that there's no way in hell that no record company is not going to sign him. That is definitely not the case for Gary. Despite his success, he had difficulties in landing a record label as he is not good looking. Which is why he went over to Taiwan, but the problem continues to haunt him. But when he finally met a company that is willing to sign him, that guy is definitely kicking everyone's ass right now with his songs.

Pua Khein-Seng

Finally, the one person that I really wanna talk about actually. I bet most people are definitely wondering who the fuck is Pus Khein-Seng. He is a Malaysian of coz. To me, definitely one of the greatest Malaysian ever lived. And yet not much Malaysians know who is he.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Phison's president, the person who invented pendrive.

Yes. The inventor of PENDRIVE is a MALAYSIAN.

Nowadays, we uses pendrive, USB thumbdrive or whatever you want to call it, more than anything else especially during our assignments and work. In fact, everyone in the world is using it and how many of you are aware that the inventor of pendrive is actually a Malaysian? And he's not some fella who is born in Malaysia but flew somewhere else during young. Let me give you guys a quick profile of who Pua Khein-Send is.

He's from Sekinchan, Selangor and he only flew over to Taiwan to study for his degree in Electrical Control Engineering. He did well in his degree program which resulted in him being offered a place for Masters. He actually did planned to return to Malaysia after completing his studies but end up setting up a company in Taiwan together with 5 other people and one of them is a Malaysian too. Then just after 6 months, in year 2000, the 6 inventors come out with their invention, the world first-ever USB storage system Pen Drive. For those who are interested, you can just google his background and profile.

For now, let me share with you guys several statements made by Mr. Pua himself.

“There is no environment or support for design engineers here in Malaysia . One of my Malaysian engineers from Phison returned home and ended up as a teacher in a Chinese school! I was shocked and thought, ‘After all that training and re-training, he is going to just teach?’ I told him to hold on till I open up the Phison branch in Malaysia .”

“We were the first company in the world to develop the USB Drive SoC (System On Chip) and we were very confident that the market for USB will be huge. At the time, no one believed in us so we had to do everything ourselves – from developing the technology, the chips to the product itself.

“We launched Pen Drive in June 2001 and by August the same year, we broke even! From September 2001, we were reaping monthly profits from our invention and there has been no turning back since.”

Amazed? Another quick fact. The reason Mr. Pua went over to Taiwan to study is because the fees to further studies in Singapore and US is much more expensive and Taiwan is the cheaper option. And also because he didn't get a place in LOCAL UNIVERSITY. Period.

P.S: This guy is handling $31 billion in Taiwan. Move over Robert er.....Robert who? Oh Yeah Robert Kuok..
